Home Brewing

MBC Home Brewing Course
All brewers start somewhere. We're committed to home brewing education and support. Stay tuned throughout the year for various home brewing seminars or demonstrations. We'll even consider special arrangements if you're really interested in a course.

Give us a call and we'll try to figure something out. And, don't forget that we have home-brew kits available — make an MBC brew at home!

There is an art and a science to brewing craft beer. Each of our brews is a trophy of sorts, the reward for detailed, exacting, and passionate brewing by artisans we call our brewers (well, some people call them Brian and Tony, but you get the point). Of course, there's a lot more that goes into it, but for those of you interested in the general process of building a flavorful, satisfying, mental get-away, here's a general overview:
  1. Grain is combined with hot water to extract the simple sugars

  2. It is sparged (rinsed with hot water) into a liquid called "Wort"

  3. Wort is sent to the "kettle" where it is boiled. During the boil, hops and other ingredients are added

  4. The wort is then cooled and sent to a fermenter where the yeast is "pitched" (added)

  5. When fermentation is complete, the beer is sent through a filter into an aging tank where it is carbonated

  6. Once aging is complete, the brew is kegged for consumption and enjoyment.
